The way students and teams collaborated in group settings was often inefficient, unstructured, and uneven. Key issues included:
The environment didn’t support teamwork mechanics — There were no spatial cues or interaction patterns to help groups coordinate their work. The development of the CRECOL prototype was centered around improving collaboration through physical design. We designed, prototyped, and tested a table that is optimized to guide teamwork through form, layout, and interaction cues.
CRECOL became a central piece of the Mind the Step exhibition and contributed to the broader conversation about how physical spaces influence collaboration.
The project grew into a meaningful exploration of how design can directly shape group dynamics, participation, and learning outcomes. For me, this project was an opportunity to push the boundaries of what a collaboration tool can be — showing that thoughtful design can transform how teams work together.
Next projects.
